Do these skills exist anymore? If you appreciate wood carving, the temples around Nikko should be high on your bucket list. Not only is the craftsmanship par excellence, but the preservation of the art is impressive as well. The entry fee to some of the temples can be a bit stiff, but those funds contribute to the continued preservation of these historic sites, so it is worth the price.
